#50 - The Hungry Brown Cow - Holt

On Friday night we were treated to a pretty special experience at The Hungry Brown Cow (HBC) in Holt for our 50th Burger review.

Firstly I just wanted to thank everyone who's given us a follow, like, DM, share, save and recommendation over the last 12 months! The page has blown up to be way more than we ever thought it would be.

On to the experience at HBC. Greeted by the owner, Will gave us a bit of a tour of the shop and explained how the whole concept of HBC came about. In what is a quite small and unassuming shop, sits what can only be described as some of Canberra's best burgers. A menu consisting of 5 beef burgers, 3 chicken burgers and 2 breakfast burgers choosing your burger of preference can be tough, but also easy if you know what you like.

We had previously visited back in May for burger #19, it'd been a long 31 burgers between visits and to say I was excited was an understatement. I was lucky enough to have a burger I had wanted to try for a while that was no longer on the menu cooked especially for me, known as 'THE GOTHAM'. A pepperoni pizza inspired burger that consisted of, a house made marinara sauce, red onion, capsicum, a pepperoni infused meat patty, two types of melted cheese, a lime aoli, and more capsicum.

This unique and interesting burger is 100% something worth trying if it makes its return to the menu. I think adding in the spice of the pepperoni and the crunch & texture of the capsicum is a different combination not usually seen in a burger before. For me, my favourite part was the housemade marinara sauce, it gave me memories of a beautifully home made Italian pizza that Nona would be proud of.

The Urbun bakery bun was structurally sound and held together like a good milk bun should, the sesame seed's were an aesthetically pleasing touch. There's a potential that these buns could become my new favourite. It'll take a bit to pip the trusty potato bun but these come very close, especially when eaten as fresh as possible.

Finally, the cookies on sale are absolutely spectacular. We were lucky enough to be treated to some of these gifts to mankind. I believe this is what HBC was origianlly known for before becoming an institution in the North West of Canberra. If you have the opportunity to fit one in after a burger I strongly recommend the Nutella M&M blondie. You won't be upset you left room!
